Spark Operator - 3rd shift (Turners Falls, MA)

Perform required operations connected with measuring, inspecting, testing and re-spooling wire and cable in preparation for shipping or its next operation. 
Major Accountabilities:
·       Work from factory orders, special customer requirements and verbal instructions to evaluate and meet specifications with regard to conductor size, amount of insulation over diameter, sparking voltage, type of repairs allowed (if any), number of pieces per reel, type of reel for put-up, sparking sequence, number of conductors, multiple lengths, amount of order.  Works in BPCS
·       Set up wire or cable on sparking machine, selects proper counter eyes, applies prescribed sparking voltage, maintains proper traverse while operating machine at fastest allowable speed; set up voltage tester, test wire and small cables at prescribed voltage, check continuity tester to insure there are no breaks or shorts.
·       Visually examine wire/cables as it is pulled through machine to detect sparking.  Identify areas of defective insulation, cut out defective piece.
·       Use micrometer to check conductor for proper size, check appearance of insulation and centering of copper wire in the insulation; tag reel in accordance with specifications, direct to next operation.
·       Detect and report any unusual conditions, defective materials or other malfunctions.
·       Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and proper condition.  Observe safety regulations.

Multi-Wire Draw Operator - 3rd Shift (Turner Falls, MA)

Major Accountabilities:
·       Work from orders, schedules for most efficient production within due date parameters, computer screens & fields, production samples, written & verbal instructions, set up &operate specifications, forms, work in BPCS system.  Coordinate work with other departments as required.
·       String up Multi-Wire Fine Draw machines and run Rod breakdown.  Take specified sample length and weigh to ensure proper elongation and detect die wear.  Self-schedule, set up and operate bunchers for most efficient production operation.  Conduct inspection of set ups and finished conductor as instructed in the SOP’s and specifications.

Single-line Extruder Operator - 3rd Shift (Turners Falls, MA)

Purpose of Position:
Perform all operations to properly extrude various plastic compounds in Low-Temp Extrusion.
Major Accountabilities:
·        Work from orders, requisitions, various sized wires to properly mix various components and chemicals to obtain and maintain stability with regard to footage, length, wall thickness, proper die and leader sizes.  Works in BPCS.
·        Set-up exacting and required placing and adjusting die in extruder, obtain and maintain proper temperature, speed and feed.  Ensure adequate cleaning of die.
·        Use vacuum apparatus to transfer compounds into feed hopper and/or machine. Check for required temperature, proper speed of take-up reel or spool, proper tension on wire, efficient operation of work, proper cooling of extruded material.  May operate marking/printing machine as specified to apply identification number, stripe or legend to extruded wire.
·        Visually check work and take samples according to specifications. Operate testing equipment and perform tests according to specifications including; concentricity, OD, elongation, adherence. Compute percents, measure in micrometers and check against wrong sized wire.  Label spools with shop order number, conductor size, wall size, color and then direct to next operation.  Include SPC records with shop order packet.
·        Care must be taken to not operate extruder without compounds to avoid damage to the screw.  Detect and report any unusual conditions, defective materials, improper compounding or other malfunctions.  Observe safety regulations while maintaining a clean and efficient work area.
·        Perform other similar duties as assigned or instructed by Supervisor.
